Turning and Forming
The first stage of working with Majolica is to shape our creations, and this is done through two important paths-Turning and Shaping.
Drying and 1st firing
The second stage is drying in which our products undergo slow, gradual and natural drying without temperature changes so as to expel all the water contained in the clay. This phase will be followed by the first firing with kilns reaching temperatures estimated at about 1000° for 13 hours.
Enameling
After the first firing there is glazing, in which the products acquire a totally white coloration based on oxides and kaolin; thus ready to pass into the hands of decorators who will give color and style to the creations.
The colors used in our workshops are designed and studied according to color tones that for effect.
Decoration
The Decorative phase is characterized in styling our creations with shades of colors designed and made by us in the workshop. Colors, shapes and style are the goal to make our Sofia brand personal.
2nd Baking and Aging
The second firing is the most important stage where everything fired at the set temperatures acquires luster and brightness, thus enhancing shapes and colors. Through special techniques the chiaroscuro on the crystallized effect of majolica is brought out, inspired by the great master CARAVAGGIO.
